- New 50/50 format (August 2025 handbook): ALCPT Forms 151 and higher now split the 100 items evenly, 50 listening and 50 reading, replacing the old 66/34 split used on Forms 1-150. DLIELC says the change aligns the ALCPT with the latest English Comprehension Level (ECL) test. (source)

Your ALCPT score is used to place you in an American Language Course (ALC) book and to pre-screen you for the ECL test; the score you need is set by your sending program or follow-on course.

ALCPT Forms Explained: Form 1 to 100 and the Newer 151+ Forms
Searches for "ALCPT form 1 to 100", "ALCPT 38" or "ALCPT 40" refer to the numbered test forms DLIELC sells to approved English Language Training Programs, not to a score or a book. Every form is a different set of 100 multiple-choice items built to the same design, and DLIELC states that all ALCPT forms are constructed to be comparable in difficulty, so a candidate should expect the same result on Form 38 as on Form 151. The forms differ mainly in their generation: Forms 1-150 follow the March 2023 handbook and use the older 66 listening / 34 reading split, while Forms 151 and higher follow the August 2025 handbook with 50 listening and 50 reading items.
A program that has bought a form may keep using it indefinitely, even after it leaves the DLIELC catalog, provided it has stayed secure; a retired form must be destroyed. That is why an ALCPT test military students sit in one country may be an early form while another program uses a newer one. Because forms are restricted materials, DLIELC states that ALCPTs must never be placed on the Internet or made available for students to study, so any "ALCPT form 1 to 100" answer key circulating online is either a compromised form or a fake.
